Release time :Nov-27,2024
As per the 2023 hypertension guidelines issued by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA), the normal blood pressure range for adults is defined as a systolic pressure below 120 mmHg and a diastolic pressure below 80 mmHg. Blood pressures ranging from 120 to 129 mmHg with a diastolic pressure below 80 mmHg are categorized as elevated blood pressure. Hypertension Stage 1 is characterized by systolic pressures between 130 and 139 mmHg or diastolic pressures between 80 and 89 mmHg. Hypertension Stage 2 is diagnosed when systolic pressure is 140 mmHg or higher and/or diastolic pressure is 90 mmHg or higher.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential for preventing and managing hypertension in daily life. This encompasses adopting a healthy diet, including a low-sodium intake, increasing potassium consumption, and a balanced intake of various nutrients; engaging in regular physical activity, such as at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week; maintaining a healthy weight with a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9; moderating alcohol intake to no more than two drinks per day for men and one drink for women; and abstaining from smoking and tobacco use. Additionally, stress management and ensuring adequate sleep are crucial lifestyle interventions.
For patients diagnosed with hypertension, adherence to lifestyle modifications is imperative, along with following medical guidance for pharmacological treatment. Regular blood pressure monitoring and communication with healthcare providers are necessary to adjust treatment plans. It is imperative not to discontinue medication or alter dosages without consulting a physician to prevent blood pressure fluctuations and the increased risk of cardiovascular events. Throughout treatment, patients should be vigilant about potential adverse drug reactions and interactions, and comply with physician recommendations for necessary tests and lifestyle adjustments.
